Russian is an East Slavic language, which is the most widely spoken of the Slavic languages. It is the official language of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as being widely spoken in Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and other former Soviet states.
